Go Fish! Trout, salmon and sturgeon abound…a sport fisher’s paradise! You can fish
our local spots on your own, although you might want to check with
Sharphooks a great web site with tons of fishing info or go
on a guided excursion with
Harrison Bay Guided Services.
Trout fishing can be found at Harrison Lake and
Sasquatch Park Lakes from early spring through
the summer months.
Deer and
Trout Lakes in Sasquatch Park are best fly fished with a small boat
or float tube as there are not many shoreline access points.
The Fraser River is home to the oldest fresh water fish on earth, the White Sturgeon.
The Sturgeon is known to live more than 150 years with lengths over 14 feet and weighing more
than 1500 lbs. Although Sturgeon fishing is catch and release only you can’t beat the natural
high of landing a “local dinosaur”.
The Fraser River is also the largest salmon producing river in the world with millions of salmon
swimming through the Valley from May through November. The Chinook (King) salmon being the largest
and most powerful can be found from May to October. In July Sockeye salmon enter the river and
from August 1st to 15th there is a 2 week period with literally millions of salmon passing through
the area. In Mid August Pink salmon begin arriving and by early September the river and its
tributaries are full of fish. Keep in mind the Pink salmon return in odd numbered years only!
Coho and Chum eventually find their way up the river and are in abundance during the months
October and November. Located only 95 kms from the ocean, Harrison and the surrounding area
produce great catches of pacific salmon along the many gravel bars of the Fraser River.
September and October are the peak months to catch salmon on a fly rod and if you don’t have the
experience there are teaching guides available in Harrison Hot Springs.
The Harrison River offers world class trout, sturgeon and salmon fishing providing some of the
best Cutthroat trout found anywhere in the Lower Mainland.
The Lillooet River is located at the top end of Harrison Lake and has some of the best trout
and char fishing in the region. Although catch and release only this river is a fly fisher’s
paradise! As the waters are extreme you may want to hire a local guide for this adventure.
The Stave River with its dam offers good angling opportunities all year long. It abounds with
Cutthroat trout, Steelhead in season and great salmon in the fall.
The
Chehalis River Enhancement Facility is located on Morris Valley Road in Harrison Mills.
This hatchery provides insight on the life cycle of salmon and trout. Featuring spawning
channels that are like stretches of engineered rivers built beside salmon bearing rivers it
is open 7 days a week from 8am to 4pm for self guided tours. 604-796-2281
